About Nesat Village

The village is known as Nesat Village or Phum Barang. The name “Nesat Village” originates from the local area and its traditional fishing beaches, with “Nesat” meaning “fishing” in Khmer. The local Cambodian community affectionately refers to the village as Phum Barang—Khmer for “village of foreigners” (with PHUM meaning “village” and barang commonly referring to Westerners). This nickname, understood as “the western quarters,” reflects the village’s international character.

Nesat Village was founded in 2020 by an international community that emerged from the changed beaches of Sihanoukville. Since then, it has grown into a community that marches to the beat of its own drum, fostering a symbiotic harmony with its surroundings.

The culture at Nesat Village is rooted in creative freedom, grounded in hospitality, and defined by acceptance and the encouragement of individual expression.

Nesat Village is part of Chrouy Svay, a beautiful community with deep roots in Cambodia’s fishing heritage. Originally a small fishing settlement, Chrouy Svay has evolved into an attractive coastal destination thanks to its dynamic location—just two hours from Phnom Penh, in a bay within a bay. Its authentic beaches and surroundings reflect a harmonious blend of Khmer culture, rural simplicity, and warm hospitality, which have long made it a beloved holiday spot for Cambodians themselves.
